The name on the jewelry tag is that of a real person. Lonnie Lovness was born and raised in Stillwater, Minnesota. While growing up, she was surrounded by art of all types, from her parents’ Frank Lloyd Wright designed home to her mother’s large and eclectic costume jewelry collection. As a girl, “dressing up” was a favorite pastime and as she grew older, Lonnie’s own jewelry collection became larger and more varied as she prowled the second-hand shops and often made her own pieces.
During her college years, while studying painting and sculpture in Minnesota and Europe, her style evolved with influences from the French impressionists and modern American masters: color and gaiety with figures that seemed to transcend the two-dimensional medium. Over the years, Lonnie continued to expand her creative horizons by painting with dyes on silk fabric. Many of these were purchased and framed, but more often, worn as scarves – each one unique, becoming at once both art and fashion.
Having entered the world of fashion through her scarves, she began to experiment with small hand-painted ceramic pins, developing designs that reflected her paintings. The first ones were enthusiastically received and more designs were added. After a few years, the line has evolved and grown to include necklaces, earrings, bracelets, and watches. Today, traveling around the world, Lonnie thrives on discoveries of new materials and objects, new color and texture for her palette. Still an artist, her medium is now the adornment of the human form.
